Here's to the good ole days!  A service station sign in South Carolina.  (Guess what?  Station closed.)

Kentucky and across the Mississippi River

Leaving Missouri, we briefly traveled through farmlands of Kentucky.  It was early on a Sunday morning and the morning mist still hung low on the fields.
We traveled along Highway 60, following our map route to cross the Mississippi River into Tennessee.
Around the curve and up an incline -- oops, too late to choose another route.  (We are traveling in a motorhome, towing a vehicle--remember?)  This is like threading rug yarn into a sewing needle, YIPES.
As we approached the bridge, we prayed that we would not meet another vehicle. This bridge was lane size only and if we couldn't have hung a bit to the left we felt we might lose a side view mirror.  As luck would have it, just as we were nearly across the bridge a truck approached.  I closed my eyes and hope Pete didn't.  We made it.  WHEW.

Arkansas

Humpty-Dumpty had a great wall in Eureka Springs.  This is a unique and eclectic town that we enjoyed discovering.

Do we think the motorhome can make it across the plank bridge to Beaver -- NOT, but the VW Beetle did fine.  After you crossed the bridge you were welcomed to nostalgia and to Beaver, Arkansas, a community of good neighbors.
In our journey around the area we saw this crown of trees atop one of the rolling hills..
And farmland complete with cows are plentiful.
Of course I have to mention food.  We took the stairway down from Eureka's Main Street to a lower level and another eclectic little (and I mean little) restaurant called The Oasis.  The entire restaurant had maybe seven tables, a small kitchen and a tiny bathroom--all you need for a delicious lunch, and it was that.

When we still lived in Lockwood Folly, Winston Spotted this baby O'Possum as we were taking our afternoon walk.  He (or she) was so cute, I just couldn't resist grabbing the camera and shooting a few.

We took a boating trip from Beaufort, NC, up to Cape Lookout.  This was another beautiful and enjoyable outing that included lunch (Food is always important :) and a stop by a secluded beach on a nearby island.

Step out the door in the morning and you can most always see a beautiful sunrise.  (The Haciendas at Playa del Carmen, Mexico)

At the ancient city of Tulum near Playa del Carmen, Mexico, the view out to the beach, the rocky shore and the ancient lighthouses is fabulous.

From the pitcher plant bog near Fair Hope, Alabama.

While we were in Savannah, Georgia, we stopped by to visit Fort Pulaski National Monument and while we were there we watched a few of the tall ships heading for the Savannah Harbor for a weekend challenge.  This was the Tall Ship Indonesia and we heard her coming before we could see more than just her masts in the distance.  First there were drums with the crew waving and saluting, and then the band struck up a tune as if to entertain us as they sailed by.  It was fantastic!

Suncoast Bird Sanctuary

At the Suncoast Bird Sanctuary it was fun watching the pelicans taking their baths.  Most of the birds here were injured, but nothing deterred these pelicans from the enjoyment of the bath.

Wise Bird

                                               Here's looking at you.

Pelican feeding

                                                         This baby is really hungry!

Well, the Grackle was not to be outdone and the poor moth lost the battle.  I don't think I will post the picture of the Grackle carrying his victim away--too sad :(
This Grackle, after trying (and failing) to get into the dining room, decided to munch down on this moth.  Well, as you can see, the moth was having no part of that and actually chased the Grackle away.

While we were hearing our tour guide tell us about this tomb of three priests at the ancient city of Tulum, these two guys popped up as if to say, "Who's there?"  We saw many, many Iguanas on this site and most of them were very well-fed. We wondered if any tourists had been reported missing.
In Playa del Carmen the celebrated dead are still waiting around for the perfect companion.

Mexico revisited 2012

During our recent trip to The Haciendas, Playa del Carmen, Mexico, these juvenile pelicans were down on the beach sunning, preening, napping and fishing.
